I’ve read countless reviews of Weathervanes but I love this write up so much. I feel seen by your analysis in the same why I feel seen by Isbell’s music. Thank you for helping me explore the “whys” because I never feel like I have a good answer when people ask me why he’s my favorite. Stellar post, as always! Thank you.
What a beautiful rumination, Marissa. Thank you for sharing! One thing that sticks out to me about this album is the physical metaphor that is Amanda's vocals being level with Jason's in the mix (and, as an aside, she absolutely destroys worlds on this record). It makes for a different, tighter experience than past records in a really good way.

While I enjoyed the bro reviews you linked us to, I loved your take so much more. Thanks for breaking it down and making me proud of the reasons I too love the Isbells’ music.
this was an amazing write-up of a much-needed perspective. Still digging into the album but its already predictably great, just gotta see how much I end up loving it. there are already plenty of moments that knock me on my ass. the production and mixing are truly incredible
I love this album. It came out in a time of real darkness for me - darkness that may be begining to lift. It has helped provide me so much perspective, so much grace and eliminate the need to think "i'm strong". Your review does the same thing; it helps me hear and feel this album differently - from a perspective I've often wondered about. That said, I'd love to read your thoughts on Molly and her situation. That song breaks my heart everytime I hear it.
